How We Work

River City’s work is to design and build top quality, handcrafted wood products for people to enjoy over time.

We can source any wood. We typically use indigenous material such as Douglas Fir, Pine, Knotty or Clear Alder, Red or White Oak and Cherry. You can opt for reclaimined wood – we often have a supply on hand – or speciality woods like Walnut, Jatoba, or Mahogany. Many varieties are available in quarter sawn.

We have in-house specialists and draftsman to either bring your vision alive or help you find a design that inspires you. We’ll guide you through the right wood, hardware and glass choices. If your designer, architect or builder has specific requirements, rest assured we have experience working with industry professionals.

Once we get an idea of the basic size, design and layout of your project, we provide you with design drawings. Next we tweak the design to meet your specifications and comments. From there, we move to final shop drawings, which you approve before we start building.

We believe the best value comes from allowing us to finish your wood product. Pre-finishing components before assembly creates a better overall result. Plus, we can finish your wood in a controlled environment, free of the many potential contaminants involved in construction and renovation.

Installation varies. For entry systems, exterior and interior doors and our architectural millwork and trim, we recommend you use the services of your builder or a qualified carpenter. We almost always install our kitchen, bath and custom cabinetry.
